The research collaboration between our Institute and the University of Concepcion has a tradition of 30 years, founded by professors Billib and Holzapfel with a focus on agricultural water management and mining. In recent years, the next generation of researchers focused on special aspects of hydrology and water resources management of Andean catchments. Topics of research include subsurface fluxes through volcanic rock formations and barriers as can be found in the upper Diguillin and the Laja catchments. During this collaboration, many PhD and Master students could visit Chile and Germany for studies about hydrology, snow melt, soil, nurients, irrigation, flood forecasting and others.
