Application Info

Admission Requirements

Students must hold a Bachelors degree with the grade "good" or better in a field related to the WATENV Masters programme, e.g. civil engineering, environmental sciences, natural sciences or geosciences. Practical training and stay abroad are not required. Instructions and examinations are given in English language. Applicants with non-English native language have to provide evidence of an adequate working knowledge of English via an internationally recognised certificate.


Application deadlines

The Master course WATENV is limited to 25 students each year. Application deadline is WiSe 2019/20: January 15th, 2019. It is recommended to submit the application as early as possible.
For EU Applicants online application is open again from June 1st - July 15th, 2018 (WiSe 2018).

DAAD application

DAAD scholarship applicants have to submit their complete documents until September 30th one year before commencing the studies to WATENV-Office.

Documents for Submission (in English)

  • Completed application form;
  • Bachelor of Science certificate (certified copy). If not yet available at time of application, applicants have to send a proof of the hitherto obtained credit points and marks;
  • University transcript (certified copy), including a description of the grading system;
  • Curriculum Vitae; (signed by applicant)
  • Letter of motivation, at least indicating the qualifications and interests of the candidate and a prospect of further activities related to the field of studies; (signed by applicant)
  • International certificate of English language (original or certified copy) (TOEFL: internet based iBT 80 pts. min., paper based (PBT) 550 pts. min., new scale 213 pts. min.; IELTS 6.0 min); min., new scale 213 pts. min.; IELTS 6.0 min.; Cambridge; or Michigan Certificate);
  • School leaving certificate (certified copy)
  • Two letters of recommendation (original) (for scholarship application);
  • Optional: proofs of professional experience, attributed scholarships by DAAD or others (certified copy), special qualifications and awards.

Note: Chinese applicants have to submit an APS certificate issued by the Akademische Prüfstelle für chinesische Studienbewerber (APS) which has recently been set up at the German embassy in Beijing.



Obtaining a student visa for Germany usually requires at least two months. Please apply for a student visa immediately upon receiving the Letter of Admission! Seek advice from the German Embassy in your country for special conditions and necessary papers for the application. Do not enter Germany with a tourist visa! A tourist visa cannot be transferred to a student visa once you have entered Germany. In your application, please refer to WATENV and include a copy of your acceptance letter. If your visa application is delayed, contact the WATENV team or your local DAAD office for assistance.
